Mascherano: Players are letting Rafa down

Mascherano and El Zhar celebrate at Old TraffordJavier Mascherano seemingly agrees with us that the finger of blame for Liverpool’s poor performances lies fully with the underperforming players.

With some quick to point fingers at Benitez, Mascherano admits that the only people Liverpool fans should be blaming are those on the pitch.

“The players play on the pitch, the manager can’t talk to us, can’t say how to play.

“We take the responsibility and we have to work on the pitch.

“I think it [the tactics] is working. That is not the problem, the problem is we are not playing as best we can.

Liverpool face Manchester United on Sunday, not the ideal opponents in a slump of form.

“We have to try to win on Sunday and try to continue winning.

“We believe in all the squad and all the staff.

“Last season we were doing a very good season so we have to maybe remember that and try to win on Sunday.”

We’ve not been the biggest fans of Mascherano after his rumoured off field disquiet but he has done the right thing by telling it exactly how it is.

Mascherano: Players are letting Rafa down

  1. Rafa is the one who signed these players so it’s his job to motivate them and getting them to play to the required standards. What exactly is a manager’s responsibility if not this or should this overrated Spaniard just continue to get paid for doing a terrible job??

Truth is that Rafa Benitez has been found out for being an awful coach who falls well short of what most fans expect at Anfield but due to financial reasons we’re stuck with this ignorant person who fails to understand that many if not most fans are sick of him.We need new investement but with our owners being an even bigger joke no wealthy individual would even consider investing in a sinking ship.

The only difference between Houllier and Benitez is that the Frenchman didn’t grow a stupid gottee in trying to look tough!

  2. I am a liverpool fan since i am standard 3.I luv liverpool so much.I hope liverpool will win manchester united on sunday. And,i also hope Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will play against manchester united on sunday.BeSt oF LucK…….

  3. Has anyone thought of the logistics of sacking Rafa? The guy’s just signed a new contract and would be entitled to a hefty pay off. I don’t know how much he’s on but it could be in the region of £10 – £12m. When you consider we can’t even scrape two pennies together for transfers, it’s hardly likely the board will sack him and then pay another top class manager a handsome salary as well as give him the required funds to build his own team. Most likely scenario if Rafa is sacked is that Kenny would get the job. It would be great to see the king back at the helm, but lets not forget, he hasn’t managed at this level for over a decade following a disasterous spell with Newcastle. Not only that, if we fail to find significant investment within the next 6 months or so, the word is we’ll be forced to sell some of our best players. Torres would be the obvious one becuase he’d be worth the most money. Even if we do find investment, it’s not gonna be of the level where the debts will be wiped and funds will be made available. Prince Faisal has already said he won’t touch us for a majority stake with the current levels of debt. Any money he does inject will be used to help out the yanks. I’m sure Mourinho would love to walk into that mess.

  4. I cannot agree more with Jj Oliver, you hit the nail on the head.
Lucas cannot last a game or keep up with the pace of the game.
I agree with Dave as well but one problem not much on the bench.

  5. Reina
    Johnson Carragher Agger Aurelio
    Aquilani Mascherano
    Kuyt Gerrard Riera
    Torres

When I see that lineup I’ll know we will be winning again. 😀

  6. what ever the result on sunday rafa has got 2 go.If he stays their is going 2 b no champions league 4 them next season b cos they will not secure a top 4 qualifictaion. Get JOSE MOURINHO in now b4 its 2 late. B cos if u dont get him in early he wont go 2 a side who is not in the champs league next season. JOSE will come 2 liverpool he has unfinished business here in England b cos of the way he parted company with chelsea. He would still this season possibly, get some silverware and 100% get a top 4 finish. With rafa their he can guarantee u top10 finish. UNTHINKABLE.

    • Both Jose and the Manc’s have courted with each other over the past year and Mourinhio has already said that he would love to manage them so sum how i would doubt he would really want to come here , plus he’s always had money were he’s been successful ; porto , chelsea, Inter ! (is he the type of manager to get the best out of what he has ?, i don’t know. )
I think our type of situation would much better suit some one like Guss Hiddink or Fabio Cappello , both managers who know how to get the best out of what they have to work with !

  7. yes, because it’s the players decisions to camp themselves in their own half and play shit house hit an hope balls week in week out, hoping for one piece of torres magic to save the 3 points.

it’s the players decisions to not attack the opposition by playing “football” this is a dying term at liverpool since the disasterous terms of houllier and benitez.

    you’re all deluded sorry.

  8. Well done ‘Masher’ it’s about time the players excepted responsibility, if you take the payment deliver the goods, the fans would love just a fraction of the life you lead, the cars you own, the houses you live in, the money you waste, we don’t deny you this if you deliver the goods, so get stuck in and earn your money, lets start with the ‘Mancs’ on sunday !!!
