Liverpool moved 8 points clear at the top of the Premier League, and 9 points clear of previous Champions Manchester City, after a comprehensive 3-1 victory at Anfield.
The reds struck hard, and quickly, in the top of the table encounter to assert a quick 2-0 lead within 15 minutes of the opening at Anfield.
Fabinho's 6th minute piledriver set the reds on their way, before Mo Salah doubled the lead in the 13th minute when he nodded in an Andy Robertson cross.
The reds scored again shortly into the second half, and although Man City did manage to breach Alisson's defence late in the second half the result was never in doubt.
This was a decisive blow to Man City, who have now lost 25% of their Premier League games this season. The reds have lost just once in their last 51 Premier League outings.
Symbolic also on the touchline - with Pep Guardiola a constant figure of desperation, whilst Jurgen Klopp exuded for large parts relative calm.
Liverpool felt aggrieved from their defeat back in January at the Etihad Stadium when millimetres separated a Liverpool goal from legality.
There were acres of difference between the two clubs today. The reds were efficient, professional and clinical, whilst the ghost of Anfield continued to haunt the likes of Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling. They had little answer to the home crowd and the home team.
It was Jordan Henderson too who upped his game and provided an astonishing cross for Mane to add Liverpool's third, which effectively ended the game despite Pep's half time team-talk.
Liverpool have now played all the teams in the top six of the Premier League - and beaten them all. Man City meanwhile, faced their first top six opposition and were roundly beaten. They still also have two games in which to face their local rivals, Manchester United.
Whilst clearly not a title decider, Liverpool have already beaten their points total against Man City from last season - the title this season will not be decided on how well the reds do against their rivals but on performances against the rest of the division.
The reds are looking good. But there is a long way to go.
