Liverpool travel to Sheffield United to try and extend a winning league run to 16 games whilst stopping a determined Sheffield United side in the tracks.

The newly promoted side are equipping themselves well so far in the Premier League, sitting in 10th and only 3 points off 3rd place in the league.

They became the first team to beat Everton at home since Man City last weekend with a 2-0 victory.

Both teams played in the League Cup in midweek, the reds made 11 changes and Sheffield United made 10 changes so both teams will be well rested ahead of this Saturday's early kick off.

Can the reds take a temporary 8 point lead at the top of the Premier League or will Sheffield United dent Liverpool's charge?

Some pre-match stats

Liverpool have played three Premier League matches away at Sheffield United.  Never won.  (Drawn 2 and lost 1).  Just one Liverpool goal scored.

The reds last win away at Sheffield United was in August 1990 when, as Champions, the reds won 3-1.

A reds win today would make them the second team to win their opening 7 Premier League games after Chelsea in 2005/06 who won their opening 9.

Liverpool have won their last 15 Premier League games.  The English top flight record is 18 games won by Man City from August to December 2017.

Keita not involved today, because...

Naby Keita played in midweek but is not in the squad today.

Here's Klopp explaining the situation.

“It is very important [keeping him fit"

“Pep [Lijnders] needed to remind that it was agreed with me before the game that he should only play 60 minutes. So we took him off when it looked like he could go longer in that game.

“So we have to be really sensitive in that situation because, obviously, the injury came all of a sudden. He was injured in the summer break during the Africa Cup of Nations and then came back and he was injured again.

“So we have to be really careful. It’s a similar situation to Alisson but the team is doing so well there is no rush to bring him in.

“The toughest period is still to come. What we did so far was tough but the toughest period is still to come – November, December and January will come and we will need everybody for that period. We have to make sure they are all available.”

Klopp already looking ahead to a very busy winter period / World Club Championships and rearranged domestic fixtures as well as Champions League group stage games.

Important midweek game for the reds.

It's the first appearance at Anfield in the Champions League since winning the trophy, and after that late defeat to Napoli, it's important that the reds beat current group leaders, FC Salzburg, to get three points on the board.
